Take pictures or record videos with any webcam that you have with this easy-to-use program.

This is a program that features a simple interface. There are tips and details at every turn to give you information about how to take pictures and how to record videos. You can record the data with any webcam that you have which is beneficial if you don't want to use your computer all the time. There is little in the way of setting up the program as it often detects what kind of device you're using. A time saver with this program is that you don't have to install it on any device that you use. All you have to do is run the proper files so that the program can detect what kind of camera you have. Once it syncs with the camera, you can begin recording videos of all kinds and taking pictures.

After you have the media that you want, there are a few editing options available. You can save the media to a file that you want to use or share it online. Although there are a few configuration settings, there aren't as many as you'll find with similar programs. Don't let that get in the way of taking pictures and capturing videos of special events and of daily life because you can easily perform a few edits to get stunning images instead of keeping the original media files. There are files to choose from when taking pictures and a list of files to choose from when recording video content. Saving your data is detailed in step by step instructions. This is a program that you can enjoy if you don't need all of the special effects and details with your images and video content.

Pros

  • Simple to use
  • Syncs with device

Cons

  • Not a lot of extra features

MyCam is a simple webcam program that hooks directly into your webcam and lets you take snapshots and record video.

This program is a simple little package that downloads quickly and runs easily. In order to run the program, download the setup file and execute it. The installation instructions will ask you to install other third party applications, such as a diagnostic tool and other programs, so just skip past those if you want to avoid them. Once the setup is finished, make sure the "launch program" box is checked in order to run it.

The program itself is rather basic - it consists of a single small dialogue box with a few buttons across the top. The button icons are self-explanatory: they allow you to take a picture, record video, and open an options menu. The options menu has two tabs. The snapshot tab lets you change whether you save the file as a jpeg or bitmap. For the video tab, you can change the video quality and the framerate options. The device menu button will bring up your webcam, and those options will most likely depend on the hardware you are using to record.

Of course, one downside to using such a simple program is that you cannot do much else with it besides take snapshots, record, and stop. It does not, for example, include advanced features such as motion capture that are included in other software programs. When you record a video or snapshot, the image will appear on the ribbon at the bottom of the program.

MyCam is freeware, so you are allowed to distribute and use the program freely. If you have suggestions or need technical support, contact the software developers at e2eSoft. It requires Windows 2000 or later, an Intel processor, 128MB of RAM, and 10MB of disk space.
